About Deb Rawson

I am a Mother to two teenage boys, I have a "portfolio career" - which means I do lots of different things as part of my job description - Co-Owner of Craft Haven Limited in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand is one of them. I love papercrafting with scrapbooking on the top of my list.

PlayA lovely LO with some cool hexagons and the Lily Bee Memorandum Collection kit.  The stamps are Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz collection – our favourite red rubber stamps – the detail is amazing and using stamps on you LO adds another super dimension to your page.  Think about using stamps where you would normally use a rub-on on your LO.  You are only limited by how many  colours of ink you have.   The background is Kraft – another favourite “go to” color that works so well with most papers.  Thickers are used for the title.

Crochet Fun

Well, I haven’t blogged for ages – sorry guys, too busy having fun and creating.  Thought we’d best show you some of the fun we have been having with crochet.  We started our Crochet workshops at Craft Haven in early November 2012 – it has been fun “getting our Granny on” (as some of our ladies call it).  I couldn’t help myself and had to do a Scrapbook layout with some of my Crochet flowers.  We’ve been working on heart bunting for the shop doorway too – but that’s not done yet (too distracted by other stuff).  We love crocheting cotton dishcloths – they are fantastic for those of you who like things that are Eco-friendly, they are so easy to make, we made quite a few for Christmas presents. Crochet Fun

UR Wonderful

This LO uses some Two Scoops cardstock for the background – sanded and inked.  The patterned paper is from the On Trend Collection by Crate Paper and the  flowers are made by ME – cotton, pattern and hooks available at our store Craft Haven.  I used A TCW template – Sunburst to make the ‘rays”, then inked around the edge.

I really got carried away with my inking on this layout.  I heavily cropped a photo to isolate the subject, used a TCW Chevron Template and Tim Holtz Bitty Grunge stamp set, lots of sponging and created my own background.  Added some patterned paper as pennants and circles along with a small title.  I love the finished result – one of my fav LO’s I’ve done recently.  It is so easy to stamp and sponge and the results are fab.

This is one of Bronwyns LO, a photo taken when she was in the South Island, over 2 years ago.   Kraft is such a great go to Cardstock for a background colour, add some stamping with a Tim Holtz Bitty Grunge stamp and it  looks fantastic, (one of my favorite stamp sets).   Of course washi tape is a great “go to” to add to any LO and  put that with some embossed stamping and twine  and this LO looks wonderful.  The lettering is a Sizzix die – Once upon a time.

Retro Photos – Road Trip 1970

I have been looking through some old photos and found a few from a road trip my parents went on in 1970.  I got my idea for this LO from Pinterest.  I used a Cherry Lyn die to make the mini blossoms (so much fun) and a Unity Chicken mesh stamp – love stamping on my LOs. The little wooden butterfly is from Studio Calico.    All the papers are from Lily Bee Memorandum Collection pack – I am really enjoying this pack and Bronwyn and I have completed six pages already with it.  Last night at Craft Havens Midnight Madness I finished a companion page to this, with another photo taken on the same road trip – I will post that one soon.   The stickers I have used for the title are included in the pack.

Little Girls

I had been so busy getting our shop Craft Haven up and running that I hadn’t had much time for scrapbooking – but now things are getting into a routine I have gott’n back into it – Yay!!!  This LO is one of my latest – I used the Echo Park – Little Girl Collection Kit, a LYB Doily (love these), my favorite stamps, Stamper Anonymous – Tim Holtz, Spring Sprung  and the EK Success Triple Butterfly punch (all of which are in store at the moment).  I love a clean and simple LO and this is perfect.

Come dive with me

Last night – was Midnight Madness at Craft Haven.  We papercrafted the evening away – and yes, by about 11:00pm it is all getting  a little ‘mad’ – only in the crazy, fun, laugh till it hurts way – not the where is the straight jacket, lock me up way.  We had a sketch challenge and this was my LO on display as inspiration for the sketch.  I kept it pretty simple and clean as a good place to start for newbie scrappers.  There is some perfect pearl mist, spritzed thru a TCW mask, but the photo doesn’t really show it up too well.  I love the Cherry Lyn dies, and chicken mesh is a favourite of mine – so many different uses – here it takes on a fishing net look.  Of course Washi tape is fun to work with and another fav of mine at the moment.    The papers, lettering and pennants are from A Walk in the Park Collection Kit – by Echo Park.

Creativity is Contagious. Pass it On.

This week a dream became a reality.  We have opened our own craft business – Craft Haven Limited.  It is exciting and scary all at once, but if you never step out of your comfort zone and follow your dreams you will never know what amazing things are there for you.  After 15 years of wishing, wondering, hoping and praying, and 7 weeks of very hard work and meticulous planning; it has begun.

At the start of our planning we found the following quote, it has been extremely inspirational to us.  It comes from Sir Peter Blake – it was the entry in his diary on the day he died.  “To win you have to believe you can do it.  You have to be passionate about it.  You have to really want the result, even it this means years of  hard work.  The hardest part of any big project is to begin.  We have begun – we are underway – we have a passion.  We want to make a difference.”

Hello Baby

Once again an old photo – 19 years old – my eldest son.  Wow, where has the time gone?  When I started scrapbooking I chose not to scrap consecutively – that is from baby years to present – but random photos as the mood took me.  This way of scrapping has been great as my style has changed so much and it is really nice to have some of the “older” photos in LOs with my current style and of course all the wonderful things that we didn’t have when I started out over 10 year ago.  I love rosettes or pinwheels or whatever you may call them – they are fun and add super dimension to your LO.
